About CoilAndCoin
CoilAndCoin helps people choose and use metal detecting gear: detectors, pinpointers, digging tools and gold prospecting equipment, and helps them detect legally.
Where our information comes from
- Specs and technique come from manufacturers' official pages and manuals (Garrett, Minelab, Nokta, First Texas/Fisher and Bounty Hunter).
- Rules on where you can detect come from federal law and agency pages (the Archaeological Resources Protection Act, National Park Service regulations, BLM and the U.S. Forest Service), plus state agencies where noted.
- Coin care comes from numismatic authorities (PCGS, NGC and the American Numismatic Association).
- Product details come from maker specifications and retail listings, and we say so (“per the listing”).
What we don't do
We don't test detectors, and we don't invent ratings, depth tests or scores. We don't give legal advice: rules differ by land manager and change over time, so always confirm with the agency or landowner before you dig.
